Isolation of secondary metabolites from the mediterranean sponge species; Hemimycale columella and its biological properties

Abstract Despite the richness and biodiversity of invertebrates algae in Mediterranean Sea, these organisms are still poorly studied. The objective our research is discovery bioactive lead compounds from Sea sponge Hemimycale Collumella (HC). HC (189.0 g) was collected Mdiq costs on extracted with methanol to yield (10 which then subjected fractionation. A bio-guided protocol applied through evaluation 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC), α -amylase, β -glucosidase, pancreatic lipase inhibition as well anti-collagenase, anti-elastase, antityrosinase cytotoxic activity. 2,3- O -Hexahydroxydiphenoyl-(α/β)-glucose (1) gentisic acid 2- -β-glucoside (2) were isolated water fraction, quercetin-3- -β-glucopyranoside (3), kaempferol 3- (4) isorhamnetin (5) n-butanol gallic (6) ethyl acetate fraction acid-3-methyl ether (7) methylene chloride fraction. Compound 5 had highest DPPH ORAC Compounds 1–5 promising activities exceeded that standard Orlistat, while 1–7 showed anti-tyrosinase activity higher than Hydroquinone monomethyl ether. This first report for biological 2, -hexahydroxydiphenoyl-(α/β)-glucose (1), (7).
